Rotary screw compressors use a rotary type positive displacement mechanism, matching two helical screws which, when turned, guide air into a chamber, whose volume is decreased as the screws turn.
The compression process of a rotary screw is a continuous sweeping motion, with very little resultant pulsation or surging of flow. These compressors are generally used to replace piston compressors in applications requiring significant volumes of high pressure air, such as major industrial applications and high-power air tools.
Used to supply compressed air for general industrial applications, they are now becoming increasingly popular for municipal wastewater treatment facilities, where they can provide increased levels of efficiency and therefore reduced power consumption.
